  • Acupuncture appointments and timing
You can have acupuncture at anytime, however: If you are currently going through IVF or preparing for IVF please read our Acupuncture for IVF page. If you are currently pregnant and nearing the end of your pregnancy we recommend starting birth preparation acupuncture from 36 weeks of pregnancy. If you have questions about timing, please give us a call or send us an email reproductiveacupuncture@gmail.com and we can discuss in more detail as every patient will have a different treatment plan tailored to them and their treatment outcomes.
  • Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture is not painful, rather it should be relaxing. If you are feeling worried about the sensation you may feel on insertion, it feels no more than a small pinch on your skin. Once the needles have been inserted, you may experience different sensations, these are usually heaviness in the body and relaxation. This is a god sign and tells us that your nervous system and blood flow are responding to the acupuncture needles.
  • What to expect from an acupuncture appointment?
When your arrive for your appointment your practitioner will ask you a series of questions, followed by observing your tongue and taking your pulse. You will then rest on the table with acupuncture needles in for 20-30mins, with a heat lamp and heat pack if needed and some gentle music or meditation. Most of our patients go into a deep rest or fall asleep. At the end of the session your practitioner will advise of a treatment plan moving forward, and if herbs are suggested in your case.
  • What do I wear to my appointment?
It does not matter what you wear to your appointment, if you are wearing tight clothes and need to remove them, you will be given a towel to drape over you. If you are wearing loose clothes we can usually work around them and you don't need to remove any clothing.
  • Is acupuncture covered by private health insurance?
Yes, acupuncture is covered by private health insurance. We always recommend you to check in with your health insurance provider.
  • Do you work with patients who don't have hormonal issues or trying to conceive?
Absolutely! We treat anyone and everything, Chinese medicine is a patient centred medicine, we treat the person, not the disease, this gives us scope to treat a lot of different conditions. We always welcome everyone who is looking for Chinese Medicine support for a variety of health conditions.
  • Does your clinic have parking?
Unfortunately we don't have parking at the clinic but there is street parking around Fitzroy Gardens. Alternatively, we are close to both the tram on Victoria Parade, Brunswick Street and Smith Street.
